Position Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the payroll function in an accurate and efficient manner, managing the preparation, documentation, and disbursement of payroll for 950+ employees across multiple states while ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations. This role requires extensive Workday expertise, including hands-on experience with system implementation, payroll module configuration, report building, and workflow optimization to enhance accuracy, compliance, and the overall user experience. The Payroll Manager will also lead and support a small team, oversee garnishments, verifications of employment, and personnel action forms, and ensure timely completion of payroll taxes and retirement contributions. Acting as a trusted partner, this role provides direct support to the Chief People Officer, contributes to HRIS strategy, streamlines processes, and enhances the employee and end-user experience. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and proactive, with the ability to work with sensitive information discreetly, build strong cross-functional partnerships, and bring a continuous improvement mindset to payroll operations.

- Compensation: $127,701.15 – $165,500.00; Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits available.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices, with a strong knowledge of federal and state regulations, FLSA and a full understanding of sensitive and confidential information.
- Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
- Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are complying.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and function with a high degree of professionalism and integrity in an energetic, demanding team environment.
- Oversees and maintains the HRIS database, integrity and security.
- Proficient in Paycom.
- Expert in Workday
- Collaborates with leadership and People Services staff on the implementation and optimization of Workday as the company’s new HRIS, identifying improvements, configuring payroll modules, and delivering system enhancements to align with business strategy.
- Serves as lead representative and liaison between People Services, Information Services, external vendors, and other stakeholders for People Services database design and implementation projects.
- Strong interpersonal (written and verbal) communication skills, at all levels.
- Responsible for full life-cycle payroll processing; balances payroll accounts by auditing information and identifying and resolving discrepancies (cycle balancing).
- Updates Payroll System with New Hire, Term, Salary, Personal, and other information.
- Advanced decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Develops and produces payroll-related statistical reports.
- Supervises payroll specialist/clerk. Maintains payroll staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Directs the resolution of complex issues or errors.
- Ensures that project/department milestones/ and goals are met.
- Maintains payroll staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Works with managers and supervisors on approving timesheets, time management and time off requests, and updates, reviews and maintains related information for all employees.
- Responsible for all non-exempt and exempt payroll and payroll activities for upwards of 1,000 people.
- Resource for hourly non-exempt employee Payroll inquiries.
- Meets payroll standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
- Ensures data integrity related to all Human Resources/Payroll information management process and transactions and have the primary accountability for the Paycom system.
- Meets financial standards by identifying variances, implementing corrective actions.
- Responsible for accurate and compliant 401(k) remittance transmissions, balancing and resolving any irregularities, and maintenance of participant files and deferral elections
- Oversees the accurate updates of records by reviewing changes in exemptions, insurance changes, deductions, paid time not worked, status, and pay; calculating vacation earned.
- Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings and communicating garnishments to employees impacted.
- Assist with audits and projects for department as needed.

Required Education and Experience
Required:
- Minimum of 7 years payroll experience.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and payroll experience may be considered.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Workday and/or HRIS implementation training or certification.
